Are you Unhappy with Your Nose Shape or Size?

Rhinoplasty (nose job) is a surgical procedure that is performed to improve the appearance and/or functionality of the nose for a lifetime. This is an effective cosmetic and medical procedure that enhances the facial profile by making the nose proportionate to other facial features as well as relieving breathing problems.

So, those who are not happy with the shape and size of their nose can go for this surgery to get the desired changes done. What cosmetic nose concerns can be corrected with rhinoplasty?

• A prominent nasal hump or depression on the nasal bridge.

• Enlarged, bulbous, upturned, drooping, or hooked nose tip.

• Large, upturned, or wide nostrils.

• Broken or crooked nose.

• Large, protruding nose.

• Nose width at the nasal bridge or in position and size of nostrils.

Rhinoplasty is also performed to correct breathing problems caused due to deviated septum and treat trauma or accidental nose injuries.

The procedure of rhinoplasty surgery in Hyderabad

The rhinoplasty surgery is carried out under local or general anaesthesia. It is performed in either of the following ways:

1. Closed rhinoplasty- Small cuts are made inside the nose, hence are hidden. This technique allows for a quick operation with minimum swelling during recovery time.

2. Open rhinoplasty- For complex nasal structures, small incisions are made in the columellar region (i.e., the nasal septum separating the two nostrils) to allow accurate operation. This allows better view of the inside of the nose, hence helping the surgeon to be more precise.

In both of these procedures, the skin covering nasal bone and cartilages is lifted through incisions to provide access to the internal nasal structure. This helps to reshape the nose structure. Once the nose is sculpted according to the desired shape, the lifted skin and tissues are then re-draped to close the incisions. For some days, post-operation, the nose is covered with surgical bandages, and nasal gauze packing or splints may be used to provide additional support to the operated nose.

Well defined nose can enhance the overall appearance of an individual. The nose is one of the most prominent features of the face, and people who are not happy with the shape and size of their nose can go for rhinoplasty surgery to get the desired nose shape.

Correction/ Alterations made with Rhinoplasty surgery

  • The nasal tip is made well-defined, balanced, elegant, and natural-looking. This is possible by reshaping and redefining the cartilage found in the nose tip using sculpturing techniques.
  • An odd-looking nose that has abnormal nostril size, i.e., either too narrow, too wide, or too large, can be altered by readjusting the nostrils. For a nose that is too wide, the excess cartilage is trimmed, and if required, additional bone is also shaved. If the nose is too narrow, it can be widened using a cartilage graft.
  • An injured nose results in the damage or displacement of the nasal structure. A broken nose can be repaired by reshaping the cartilage and, in some cases, resetting broken nasal bones to provide the normal nose shape and clear nasal passage for proper airflow. In the case of a crooked nose or a deviated nasal septum, rhinoplasty can be performed to straighten it.
  • For the over projected nose, the surplus cartilage of the nose tip is cut off, and the large nose is repositioned.
